I’m sharing my favourite Auckland wedding venues worth shortlisting
I’m based in Hobsonville Point, West Auckland / Waitākere so West Auckland wedding venues are close to my heart (and my neighbourhood). So, if you’re looking for a wedding venue with personality, beautiful backdrops and a little something special, West Auckland has it all? From romantic vineyard estates in Kumeū to native bush hideaways in the Waitākere Ranges or timeless stylish garden settings, these five wedding venues deserve a place on your shortlist.
Let’s be honest. Wedding venue hunting can become a full-time job very quickly.
One minute you’re saving gorgeous wedding photos on Pinterest. The next, you’ve got seventeen browser tabs open, three spreadsheets, a guest list that’s somehow growing by the day and absolutely no idea which venue is actually right for you.
Sound familiar?
If you’re planning a wedding in Auckland, I’ve got a little local inspiration for you.
West Auckland is home to some seriously beautiful wedding venues, from lush garden estates and vineyard settings to contemporary spaces surrounded by native bush. Whether you’re dreaming of an elegant celebration, a relaxed country wedding or a romantic outdoor ceremony, there’s plenty to explore without travelling halfway across the country. All of my favourites are no more than 30 minutes drive from Central Auckland CBD.
As an Auckland marriage celebrant for weddings both intimate and extravagant and a small wedding specialist, I’ve spent years helping couples bring their wedding days to life. I know that choosing a venue isn’t just about finding somewhere pretty to get married.
It’s about finding a setting that works for your guest list, your budget, your personalities and the kind of experience you want to create.
So, if you’re searching for West Auckland wedding venues, I’ve rounded up five of my favourites to help you get your venue search started.
Let’s find you somewhere fabulous! Here’s are my absolute favourites…
Why choose a West Auckland wedding venue?
West Auckland has a lovely mix of native New Zealand charm, established gardens, vineyard scenery and contemporary event spaces. Head towards Kumeū, Waimauku or the Waitākere Ranges and you’ll find settings that can feel a world away from the city while remaining within easy access to and from Auckland.
For couples planning an Auckland wedding, this combination is a real winner ~ for you and your guests to help reduce travel times and logistics.
All five venues offer the best of both worlds ~ the convenience of hosting your marriage ceremony and wedding reception in one location, with distinct spaces that create a different atmosphere for each part of your day. No need to book two separate venues or coordinate travel between your ceremony and reception. Just one beautiful location, multiple settings and a seamless celebration from “I do” to “let’s party!”.
You can create a relaxed country celebration, exchange vows surrounded by greenery or host a stylish reception without having to leave Auckland and plan a destination wedding.
West Auckland is also worth exploring if you’re considering an intimate wedding, mini wedding or a larger celebration with family and friends. Different venues cater to different guest numbers and styles, so it’s worth comparing the options rather than assuming you need a particular type of venue.
My advice? Start with your guest numbers and the wedding vibe and atmosphere you want, then work backwards.
Do you want lush gardens? Vineyard views? Native bush? A blank canvas you can style from scratch? And the bonus ~ all these venues offer more of the planning and coordination support to make wedding planning and your lives easy!
Once you know the answer, your shortlist becomes much easier to manage. I created the Wedding Glow Up Workbook ~ Your 1st Steps To I Do to help you define your vibe, create your vision and get clear on your priorities. Get your free copy here.
1) Tui Hills ~ Bridgerton vibes + wild beauty
Best for: Nature lovers, contemporary styling and a distinctly New Zealand setting that has touches of enchanted garden and Mediterranean warmth.
If your dream wedding involves a swoonworthy Bridgerton style gazebo, natural greenery, beautiful architecture and a setting that feels a little removed from the everyday, put Tui Hills on your list.
Located on Scenic Drive in the Waitākere Ranges, Tui Hills brings together the natural beauty of native bush with thoughtfully designed event spaces. It’s an appealing option for couples who want the atmosphere of a bush setting without giving up contemporary style. I don’t know how they’ve melded all these dramatically different vibes together so seamlessly, but they have so you really do get a contrast of spaces to play with.
It’s not your typical country venue, and that’s part of its appeal.
What makes Tui Hills the best option for you?
The venue offers several distinct spaces, including the Kowhai Glade with its enchanted rotunda, the cosy Nectar Room plus the modern Nikau Pavilion which brings the outdoors indoors. Each brings a different look and feel to the day, giving couples excellent options for ceremony and reception dinner and dancing plans.
The native surroundings provide a beautiful backdrop for outdoor vows and wedding photography, while the pavilion offers an architectural alternative for couples who love a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
Tui Hills has capacity for weddings of up to 120 guests, with different spaces and packages available if you have less than this number or are looking for a cost effective pop up wedding. Check the current options directly with the venue to find out what suits your guest numbers and preferred celebration style.
My Wedding Fairy Godmother tip
Think about how your styling will work with the setting rather than trying to compete with it.
Native greenery, considered florals, beautiful lighting and a thoughtful colour palette can complement the surroundings without needing to cover every surface in decorations. Honestly you don’t even need to do anything to style this venue, it is that gorgeous on it’s own.
The team will invite you for a viewing so you can see the ceremony location you’d actually use, along with the reception space and wet-weather arrangements. Look out for their venue showcase held twice a year too. I’m a preferred vendor so I’ll always advertise when the next date is!

2) Abel Estate ~ lakeside romance with vintage charm
Best for: Couples who love quaint historic villas and romantic lakeside backdrops.
If you’ve been saving wedding inspiration featuring water, greenery and elegant outdoor ceremonies, Abel Estate is the one for you!
Conveniently located in Kumeū, Abel Estate combines a private lake, manicured grounds, vines and a old villa for your indoor space. Your wet weather option is a fixed marque with clear panels so you get the best of the outdoors under protection, even when it’s raining. It has the most dreamy balance of natural beauty and charm, making it worth considering for couples who want a romantic setting without committing to a purely rustic aesthetic.
What makes Abel Estate the perfect choice?
One of the big attractions is the choice of scenery. The lakeside pavilion is a popular marriage ceremony spot with rolling greenery and vines as the romantic ceremony backdrop.
One thing not to be overlooked when choosing your wedding venue is the team that look after you. Abel Estate and Tui Hills are under the same ownership and will make you feel like the main characters you are!
Abel Estate can hold weddings up to 100 guests, with exclusive use of the venue and grounds for one wedding per day. Its options include indoor spaces and a marquee, providing alternatives when the weather doesn’t cooperate. Plus Abel Estate and Tui Hills offer the flexibility of affordable pop up wedding packages ~ meaning you can have less guests and your choice of canapés or plated dining ~ whatever works for your budget.
It’s worth exploring if you want the beauty of a countryside setting while keeping the ceremony and reception in one location.
Plus a big bonus is this wedding venue has so many picture perfect locations you won’t have to leave your guests and the party to go somewhere else for wedding photos.
My Wedding Fairy Godmother tip
When you visit, ask how the ceremony, drinks, photographs and reception will fit together.
You want to build a picture of the flow of your big day ~ where guests will go after the ceremony, what happens if it rains and how much time you’ll have for photographs without feeling rushed.
If you’re planning a smaller wedding, ask about the packages designed for your guest numbers. You don’t want to pay for an experience that doesn’t suit the size or style of celebration you’re creating. Abel Estate are excellent at helping you create the perfect experience for you.

3) Markovina Vineyard Estate ~ hidden surprises & magical forest vibes
Best for: If you’re looking for a character garden setting and a few different dining options this is for you.
Some venues have one standout feature. Others give you a whole collection of beautiful settings to choose from.
Markovina Vineyard Estate in Kumeū is set across a sprawling estate of gardens and water features. Markovina offers a dedicated wedding venue with indoor and outdoor flow, established gardens and a unique indoor reception setting beneath a canopy of real vines. When the fairy lights are twinkling it’s absolutely magical.
It’s an option worth exploring if you want a romantic estate atmosphere with plenty of opportunities for ceremony and wedding photography without leaving the property.
What makes Markovina extraordinary?
Celebrating 60 years and still in the same family ~ the Markovina’s ~ this expansive venue is doing something right!
It can take up to 300 guests which makes it one of the unique character wedding venues in Auckland.
Multiple ceremony locations are on offer here, with nine pretty outdoor ceremony settings to choose from. It hosts one wedding per day, giving couples exclusive access to the estate for their celebration.
Markovina also offers a range of wedding packages and dining styles, including cocktail hour canapés, plated meals, buffets and shared platters. That flexibility can be helpful when you’re trying to create a celebration that suits your guest list and the atmosphere you want.
All garden areas make for incredible backdrops for photographs with some showstopping props already in place, while the indoor reception area provides a setting for dining and celebrating.
Plus the family led team are some of the best around and will treat you like the VIPs you are.
My Wedding Fairy Godmother tip
Don’t choose your ceremony location based on photographs alone.
Try and view your venue about the same time of day you’re planning your ceremony, think about where the sun will be, how your guests will get to the ceremony area and what the experience will be like for anyone with mobility requirements.
And if your dream involves outdoor vows, ask to see the wet-weather option. You want a plan B that still feels special, not one that makes you cross your fingers and hope for sunshine.
Markovina suits a range of wedding styles and guest numbers, so check current package information and ask about the options available for your particular celebration.

4) The Hunting Lodge ~ classic vineyard vibes + modern rustic style
Best for: Couples who love wine-country surroundings, rustic barn aesthetic or character villas.
If your Pinterest board leans towards modern rustic styling, beautiful food, vineyard views and a reception that feels more like an incredible party than a formal function, take a look at The Hunting Lodge.
Located in Waimauku, in the heart of Auckland’s wine country, The Hunting Lodge is nestled in a working vineyard and has a contemporary purpose built barn setting alongside multiple ceremony locations and a heritage villa restaurant.
The barn aesthetic gives couples room to bring their own personality to the space.
What makes the Hunting Lodge stand out?
The Barn is designed as a flexible event space, with capacity for 168 seated guests and up to 250 standing.
Couples can choose from different ceremony locations across the property and customise their dining experience. Options include plated meals, family-style sharing, grazing tables and more relaxed walk-and-fork dining.
And then there’s Jerry, the renovated 1975 caravan that can serve refreshments in the courtyard. The perfect way to add a bit of fun to your wedding day.
The venue’s food and wine offering is exceptional so another reason to explore it if the reception experience is high on your priority list.
My Wedding Fairy Godmother tip
A blank canvas is exciting, but it can also mean more decisions.
Before booking, find out exactly what’s included in the venue hire, what styling items are available and which extras you’ll need to arrange yourself.
Ask about lighting, furniture, linen, setup and pack-down, and whether the venue’s team can help coordinate the details.
The goal is to create a celebration that feels personal without accidentally giving yourselves an extra six months of DIY projects.

5) The Brigham ~ elegant garden charm & flexible wedding spaces
Best for: Couples looking for a large garden party feel with the added reassurance of an outdoor rain day space.
Sometimes, the right venue is the one that gives you a beautiful setting and makes planning feel more manageable.
Located on Brigham Creek Road in Whenuapai, north-west Auckland, The Brigham is a garden wedding and reception venue that makes planning your wedding easy.
Its lavish lawn with a statement natural foliage arbour and classic statues provide a lovely backdrop for an outdoor ceremony, while the venue offers reception options and packages that can be tailored to different styles of celebrations.
It’s also worth investigating if you’re interested in a pop-up wedding rather than a more traditional full-day format.
What make the Brigham special?
The Brigham has a range of wedding packages to suit every budget and wedding style.
It also offers sit-down meals and buffet options, giving couples different ways to plan their reception.
For couples who want a garden setting with flexible package options, it’s well worth arranging a viewing and discussing what is possible for your guest numbers and budget.
The team here will go out of their way to make your once-in-a-lifetime celebration stress-free and special for you.
My Wedding Fairy Godmother tip
Ask for a detailed breakdown of what’s included in each package.
Does it cover ceremony setup, chairs, sound system, food, drinks, staff, styling and coordination? What will you still need to organise? Are there minimum guest numbers or additional charges?
If you’re planning a pop-up wedding, ask how long you have exclusive access to the space and what the experience looks like for you and your guests.
The more you understand upfront, the easier it is to compare venues properly.

Which West Auckland wedding venue is right for you?
Here’s the thing, the best wedding venue isn’t necessarily the most expensive, the biggest or the one that looks the most impressive on Instagram.
It’s the one that works for your wedding.

Things to check before booking your Auckland wedding venue
Before you fall head over heels for a venue, make sure you’ve asked the questions that will help you make a confident decision.
1) Does the venue suit your guest numbers?
Be realistic about your guest list. A venue can feel very different with 25 guests compared with 120, and you don’t want to pay for space you don’t need or squeeze everyone into a room that feels too small.
If you’re planning an intimate wedding, ask whether the venue offers smaller wedding packages or different pricing for lower guest numbers.
2) What’s actually included in the price?
Ask for a full breakdown of venue hire and package inclusions.
Check furniture, ceremony setup, reception spaces, catering, beverages, staffing, styling, sound system, cleaning and any supplier or service fees. The headline price rarely tells the whole story.
And is it inclusive or exclusive of GST.
3) What’s the wet-weather plan?
Auckland weather likes to keep us on our toes.
If you’re considering an outdoor ceremony, ask exactly where it will move if it rains, how the decision is made and whether the alternative space will still accommodate your guests comfortably.
Don’t just ask whether there’s a wet-weather option. Ask to see it.
4) How will the day flow?
Think about guest arrival, the ceremony, drinks, photographs, reception and speeches.
Will guests need to move between different parts of the property? Is there enough time to take photographs without leaving everyone waiting? Where will people gather after the ceremony?
Good planning makes a difference to the way the day feels.
5) What are the catering and beverage options?
Some venues have in-house catering and beverages or preferred suppliers, while others let you BYO.
All my favourite venues above have in house catering to make it easy for you. But any other venues, always ask whether you can choose your own caterer, whether there are minimum spends and what happens with dietary requirements. Check beverage packages, corkage and any restrictions before making assumptions.
6) What will your guests need?
Consider parking, transport, accessibility, bathrooms, accommodation nearby and how easy it will be for guests to find the venue.
If you’re inviting people from outside Auckland, think about how they’ll get there and whether they’ll need somewhere to stay.
7) Does the venue feel right for the two of you?
This is the question that matters most.
Can you imagine exchanging vows there? Does it suit the atmosphere you’re hoping to create? Can you picture your favourite people celebrating with you?
A venue should support your wedding vision, not dictate every decision you make.
Most of all you’re going to be relying on the venue team and spending alot of time planning with them. How comfortable do they make you feel?
Planning a small wedding in West Auckland?
You don’t need hundreds of guests to create a wedding worth remembering.
A smaller celebration can give you the opportunity to focus on the details that matter most: a meaningful ceremony, a beautiful setting, delicious food, time with your favourite people and a day that doesn’t leave you feeling like you’ve just managed a major corporate conference.
And yes, I’m saying that as someone with more than 20 years of event planning experience!
If you’re searching for small wedding venues in West Auckland, ask venues about their intimate wedding, mini wedding or pop-up wedding options. Not every venue offers a dedicated package for smaller groups, so it’s worth checking directly.
And of course there’s always my all-inclusive Little White Chapel small wedding packages!
Think about the experience you want rather than simply reducing the guest list for the sake of it.
Maybe it’s a garden ceremony followed by a long lunch. Perhaps it’s a romantic vineyard celebration with a picnic for your closest family and friends. Or maybe you want a stylish, intimate wedding without the logistics of a full-scale reception.
There’s no single right way to do it.
At Lucky in Love Weddings, I work with couples who want their wedding to be meaningful, personal and beautifully organised without making planning their entire personality for the next twelve months.
Because getting married should be exciting. The planning doesn’t need to be a circus.
A final word from your Auckland Wedding Fairy Godmother
Your venue is your wedding day backdrop, but it’s the experience you create there that makes your day memorable.
Choose somewhere that suits your personalities, works with your priorities and gives you the freedom to celebrate in a way that matters to you.
And don’t be afraid to ask questions, compare options and think outside the traditional wedding checklist.
You can have a beautiful wedding without following every expected tradition. You can have an intimate celebration that feels every bit as special as a grand affair. And you can make decisions that reflect your relationship rather than someone else’s idea of what a wedding should look like.
